Edna “Marie” (Davies) McGhay, aka Granny, was born in Atchison County, KS on May 21, 1926 and entered into eternal life on April 9, 2019 surrounded by family in Enid, OK. Born to John William and Edna (Higley) Davies, Marie’s early years were spent on a farm 20 miles outside of Atchison, KS where she attended school in a one-room school house. The family later moved to Effingham, KS where she graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1944. During WWII, Marie worked for Pratt-Whitney Aircraft in Kansas City. Following the war, she met Don McGhay whom she married on December 25, 1948, that very same day the couple moved to Enid, OK and established their home. A mother of three, Marie, had a very full and active life. She proudly worked at Vance Air Force Base from 1956 until her retirement in 1980, most notably as the base Historian receiving multiple Outstanding ratings. During her working years she was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Enid Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2005 for her service to the organization. Retirement brought a love for the game of golf. Marie enjoyed being a member of the Meadowlake Women’s Golf Association where she had a hole in one in 1991 on hole #5. Marie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them and discussing/debating current events. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
