Sunday, May 27th, 1928 - Saturday, July 31st, 2021
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Lee Smith, age 93, of Enid, will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church with Father Mark Mason celebrating Dorothy's life. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born May 27, 1928 to Eliza and Dora (Holder) Bird in Maury City, Tennessee and passed away Saturday July 31, 2021.
Dorothy was baptized on August 31, 1957, at the Basilica of Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Dorothy made many friends through clubs she joined; Levis and Lace Square Dancing Club, quilting club, and St. Gregory’s Alter Society. Dorothy was a member of Shirts & Skirts Square Dancing Club for five years, and Levis and Lace for thirty-five years. In November of 2011, a $10 investment paid off in spades for Dorothy. She bought ten tickets for $1 each in a raffle for a 1979 Corvette. When the drawing was held at the state convention, one of Dorothy’s tickets won! She wound up accepting sealed bids and eventually sold the car. She was a member of Compassionate Quilters, making quilts for cancer patients. She loved visiting with friends and attending church. Dorothy retired from NORCE in 1990 after caring for many special-needs adults and children. Dorothy also was a volunteer at Cardiac Rehab for eleven years.
Dorothy welcomed friendship and enriched the lives of her friends with her wit, wisdom, love of life, and that constantly present twinkle in her eyes. Her ever-widening circle included church friends, co-workers, neighbors, square dance partners, quilters, and “extended” family members of her choosing. Fiercely independent, she faced numerous challenges with more grace than most would, while holding fast to her faith and beliefs. She personified determination, steadfastness, and courage, and was tenacious in her commitments to others. She will be greatly missed.
She will be missed by her St. Gregory’s Church friends, close neighbors and family friends. Memorials may be made to RSVP mobile meals or Humanity Hospice with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
