We will be celebrating the life of Dorothy Cochran, lifelong Enid resident, 1:30 p.m. Friday April 28, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Wade Burleson presiding. A visitation with family will be 5:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Henninger~Hinson Funeral Home.
Dorothy Jean Keeton was born April 1, 1931 to Ernest and Willie Belle (Brown) Keeton. A graduate of Enid High School, she married her junior high sweetheart and the love of her life, Howard Cochran, December 26, 1948. After a few moves while Howard was deployed with United States Air Force, they came back to reside in Enid permanently, where they raised their family and cultivated many lasting friendships. After suffering a debilitating stroke in October 2016, Dorothy passed away peacefully on April 26th, surrounded in love by her family. All who knew her would know that she would want this portion of her life marked in just the same way as she lived, in joyous celebration. Dorothy was an example of how to live well. How to give whole heartedly, and how to live with purpose, never slowing down. She exemplified the term, “young at heart”, who up until last year, was challenging her grandchildren to “planking contests” and was running circles around her Canasta card group, who were more than twenty years her junior. Skilled in Facebook and Facetime, her only regret may be not buying an IPhone. Known for her elegance and class she was truly one of a kind. Notorious for her quick wit and one-liners that kept everyone laughing. On Friday nights, she was a fixture at Oakwood Country Club, and when she was not at “The Club”, she could always be found entertaining. She was a gracious hostess who loved to have her home filled with her dearest family and friends. She was a fantastic cook with impressive culinary skills; Her fried chicken, and sausage biscuits and gravy were legendary. Above all, her greatest joy and accomplishment was her family. She was a devoted wife of 57 years, loving mother and the greatest Mama. One of the most sincerest compliments was that she was often referred to as a “second mom”, touching the lives of many. Her heart was as big as her personality and she will be sorely missed.
She is survived by two daughters: Jan Ronck and husband, Rick of Oklahoma City, Jill Frye and husband, Matt of Cypress, Texas and five grandchildren: Abbey Ronck, Taylor Guttery and her husband, Darrell, Caitlin Merritt and her husband, Jeffrey, Keeton Frye and Marshall Frye and the newest member of her family, Lee Brady, her very best friend and partner for the last 10 years, thank you for making her so happy.
The Cochran family extends their sincerest thanks to those who loved and stood by Dorothy’s side over the last six months we could not have managed without you. To Beth Wise and the staff at Concordia Life Care Community , thank you for caring for and loving her like your own. And to her many many great friends, thank you for all the love and support. You are truly the “charming gardeners” of her life.
Memorials may be made to The Concordia Community Scholarship Program and YWCA with the Funeral Home acting as custodians of the fund.
