The Graveside Service Celebrating the life of Dorothy Jo Christy, 87, of Enid, formerly of Waukomis, will be held at a later date, with Pastor David Jones of the Waukomis Christian Church officiating. Complete care cremation and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born June 15, 1929, in Shawnee, to Mary Alice (McFann) Ward and Wilfred Ford Ward, and died Monday, April 10, 2017, in Enid at age 87. She grew up in Shawnee and later in El Reno, where she graduated high school. She married R. Jack Christy Jr. in El Reno May 21, 1949. They moved to Enid for several years, and settled in Waukomis in 1951, where she worked part time for many years at Christy Printing Co. and the weekly newspaper, The Oklahoma Hornet. She also served many years as a volunteer election inspector at the Waukomis Precinct and was a long-time member of the Waukomis Christian Church.
For the past several years, she has been a resident at The Commons in Enid.
She is survived by a son, David Alan Christy and wife Debby, of Waukomis; and a daughter, Charlotte Ann Manning, of Harrah; four grandsons, Jeff Karr, of Harrah; Marc Christy of Kemp, Texas; Andrew Christy, of Centennial, Colo.; and Alan Christy, of Oklahoma City; and one great-granddaughter, Paige Christy, of Enid.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, in 2002, after 53 years of marriage; and by her older brother, Harry Ward, in 1975.
Memorials may be made in her name to Waukomis Fire & Rescue Association or to Waukomis Christian Church, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
