The funeral for Doris Loraine Hesket Wanzer Smith, 85 year-old Enid resident will be 1:00PM Thursday, March 16, 2017 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gail Edmison will officiate. Burial will follow in Veneble Cemetery near Loyal.
Doris was born July 9, 1931 in Oxford, Kansas to Velma Condit Hesket and George Wayne Hesket and died Thursday, March 9, 2017 in Enid. She graduated from Winfield High School on May 30, 1949. She married Ferman Dwaine Wanzer in 1953. She later married Bobby Smith in 1992.
Doris was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She always thought of others first and spent countless hours to love and support her family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they would always bring a smile to her face. She was talented in sewing, needlework, and yarn work. She was an avid gardener and created beautiful landscapes and flowerbeds.
She is survived by son David Wanzer and wife Cathy of Enid, OK; son-in-law Jeff Mills of Enid, OK; daughter Lydia Leach and husband Bruce of Norman, OK; son Darrell Wanzer and wife Susan of Drummond, OK. Sisters Elizabeth Arnold of Wichita, KS and Lois Cusick and husband Frank of Coloma, WI; sister-in-law Alice Hesket of Geuda Springs, KS. Grandchildren: Laura Nelson and husband Dustin of Waukomis, OK; Marissa Wanzer of Oklahoma City; Derick Wanzer of Enid, Kyle Mills and wife Daisy of Edmond, OK; Amelia Mills of Enid, Ashleen Wooten and husband Jeremiah Wooten of Dallas, TX; and Andy Wanzer of Drummond, OK. Great-grandchildren; Lauren, Samantha, and Dustin Nelson of Waukomis; Adrian Maddox of Enid, D’Lajiah and Isaiah Fields of Edmond, OK; and Wyatt and Whit Wooten of Dallas, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ferman Dwaine Wanzer and Bobby Smith, daughter Dana Wanzer Mills, brother Donald Hesket and sister Mabel King.
