A celebration of the life of Donna Powell, will be 3:00 PM Sunday, April 30, 2017, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 614 N. Garland in Enid, OK, with Rev. Diana Pruitt officiating. A private burial service will be held for the immediate family prior to the celebration at Memorial Park Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.
Donna was born on Dec. 6, 1930, in Enid at General Hospital to Don I. and Dora Lee Wertheim Strickland and was called to be with her Lord on April 25, 2017 at Integris Bass Hospital.
Donna graduated from Enid High School with Honors. Upon his return from military service, she married Jimmie Powell on Aug. 6, 1949 at Grand Avenue Methodist Church in Enid. From this union, three beautiful girls were born; Debra, Christa and Sara.
Donna was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family unconditionally. She joined Grand Ave Methodist Church on Oct. 4, 1942. She has been a lifelong member of Grand Ave, St. Luke’s, and New Hope United Methodist Church where she served as secretary for several years at St. Luke’s. She proudly served on several committees, sang in the choir, led nursing home services with Jimmie, and was a member of U.M.W. Donna was a past member of the Enid Writer’s Club, where she served as President, and was a published writer of children’s activities.
Donna is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmie of 67 years, whom she met as a child at church; daughters and their husbands, Debra Wayman (Jackie), Christa Ringwald (John), Sara Black (Jay); grandchildren; Ryan Stallings, Aubrey (Chandra) Brune, Hilary Danklefs (Jon), Haleigh Rogers (David), and Harlie Black; great grandchildren; Avery Brune and Wesley Danklefs; her sister, Joyce De Moss (Robert); and many other family and friends.
She will be remembered for her devotion to her husband, girls, great and grandchildren, and sister. Her memories will live on with our remembrances of her love of books, church, bird watching, playing piano and singing, playing cards and games with family and friends, chocolate and angel food cake.
