The celebration of Life for Donald R. Myers will be 10:00am Monday, March 14, 2016 at Garriott Road Church of Christ, officiated by Ray Rose, Minister. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8:00pm Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the funeral home.
Don was born December 10, 1932 in Cleona, Pennsylvania to Russell and Stella Myers and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Enid, March 11, 2016, at the age of 83 years.
The United States Air Force brought Don to Enid, where he met Marilyn Fourier. They married December 11, 1953 and lived most their married life here in Enid.
Don served his community by working at Enid Postal Service for 29 years, retiring in 1987. He drove a bus for Enid Public Schools for four years then operated Vance Air Force Base Post Office for thirteen years.
Don served his country in the US Air Force and Air National Guard until retirement in 1992, flying all over the world. He and Marilyn continued to enjoy adventures together while traveling to many countries after retirement.
Don served his church, Garriott Road Church of Christ, as Deacon for 48 years, primarily taking care of the church grounds during that time.
He took great pleasure in eating, often planning dinner before lunch was finished. He was passionate about watching baseball, basketball and football, and attended games in all but one MLB stadium. Don is well-known and remembered for his unrestrained generosity, kindness to strangers and friends alike, devotion to family and church, passion for sports, joy in game nights and a penchant for hilarious stories and anecdotes from a life fully lived.
Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three children, Steve Myers (Sally) of Edwardsville, IL; Kristi Murrell (Ken) of Cushing, OK; Sherri Kreplin (Kurt) of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren, Stu Myers and Shelby Smith of Edwardsville, IL; Katy Sikes (Justin) of Rincon, GA; Kendon Murrell (Faith) of Singapore; Kamry Murrell of Edmond, OK; Kelly Kreplin of Memphis, TN; Kristian Murrell of Cushing, OK; four great-grandchildren, Blake and Lily Smith; Marley and Cooper Sikes; two sisters, Janet Trautman (Bob) of Lebanon, PA; Doris Yates of Merritt Island, FL; His grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved spending time with his family.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Stella Myers of Lebanon, PA and two sisters, Lucille Collins and Eleanor Magazino.
Memorial contributions, in remembrance of Don, may be given through the funeral home to Garriott Road Church of Christ.
