He graduated from Covington High School in 1959. He and Karan (Staerkel) were married on December 23, 1961, in Enid, Oklahoma at University Place Christian Church. They received their Bachelor of Science Degrees from Oklahoma State University in May of 1963 and moved to Aline, Oklahoma, for their first teaching assignment. Dean taught Vocational Agriculture for nine years at Aline-Cleo High School then joined Cleo State Bank in 1972, where he currently served as President, as well as serving the surrounding banking communities for 45 years. Their greatest joys are the many occasions to celebrate with family including the yearly end-of-summer trips to Oklahoma City, Thanksgivings in Branson, baseball, soccer, and volleyball games, graduations, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
He loved working with his hands, whether it was creating a family treasure out of wood, working down the hill in his man cave, sharing his talent and expertise with others, or being outdoors.
