ENID, Okla. - March 20 was not only the first day of Spring but was also the International Day of Happiness. Here is a list of 10 things to help make you a happier person.
-
Get Happy!
-
1. Practice kindness. Do something nice for someone else, whether it's someone you know or a stranger. It can be spur of the moment or planned out. Like buying someone's coffee in the drive thru lane.
-
2. Keep a gratitude journal. Jot down things that you are grateful for and the things that make you happy. If you are ever feeling down you can read through it for a quick pick-me-up!
-
3. Get spiritual. Participate in a local church, synagogue, mosque or other preferred spiritual community. Even reading spiritual literature can be helpful. You don't have to be serious to be a spiritual person.
-
4. Buy experiences, not stuff. Vacations with loved ones or tickets to events will make you happier than buying more gadgets. Remember, you can't take it with you so enjoy the moments more!
-
5. Buy things that create experiences. Buy gear that allows you to have experiences in your areas of interest, such as games, sports equipment or music. Experiences will be remembered more than the gear.
-
6. Hang out on social media less. Spend more time talking to friends and family face to face. Get outdoors more and enjoy the moments rather than trying to record them.
-
7. Check your email less. Try to only check your email 3 times a day. Set aside time for the purpose and then you'll feel less stressed. Leave time each day to respond but only at specified times.
-
8. Focus on time, not money. Focusing on time often helps people realize that time is a precious resource. Be more deliberate in how you spend it. The years start going by more quickly the older you get.
-
9. Lose yourself in your activities. Increase the number of opportunities to "lose" yourself in a new or old activity that occupies your brain and body. Those will be some of your most memorable moments.
-
10. Embrace failure and worry less. Failing is way to learn. People who succeed often fail many times before they succeed. And don't worry about the little things, everything will work itself out and worrying about it won't change that fact.
