Funeral services for David Paul VonDielingen, age 71, of Garber, are 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Hein officiating. Burial will follow in Garber Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, May 10th at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Dave was born September 27, 1947 in Joplin, MO to Paul and Ruth (Hauer) VonDielingen, and passed away Monday, April 7, 2019 at his home in Garber.

Dave grew up in Wichita, KS where he attended Wichita Lutheran Elementary School, and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1965. He attended in St. John’s Lutheran College, graduating with an Associates of Arts Degree in 1967. He graduated from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970, eventually obtaining his Master’s Degree from Michigan State University in 1978. He married Joyce Lee Simmering on July 18, 1970 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Garber. They moved to Pontiac, MI where Dave taught 3rd and 4th grade, and served as principal at St. Trinity Lutheran School. In 1973 they moved to Jackson, MI where he served as a teacher and computer lab coordinator at Trinity Lutheran School. Dave and Joyce moved to St. Peter’s, MO in 1989 where Dave served as teacher and computer lab coordinator at Zion Lutheran School, in Harvester, MO. In 2008, Dave retired from teaching and the family moved to the Simmering Family Homestead outside of Garber. He and Joyce were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Garber where he sang in the choir and taught high school and adult Sunday School Classes; VBS; and was the financial secretary of the church. He was an EMT in Garber for four years. Dave was an amateur radio operator and a member of the American Radio Relay League. Dave had several hobbies; he enjoyed shooting targets and trap, and flying radio controlled airplanes. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and playing board games with his grandsons.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and step-mother, Edna VonDielingen. Dave is survived by his wife Joyce, of the home in Garber; three children, daughter Jennifer Dement and husband Carl, of Edmond, OK; daughter Erin VonDielingen, of Enid; son James VonDielingen, of Burbank, CA; two grandsons, Ryan and Adam Dement, both of Edmond, OK; sister, Elisa Schendel and husband John, of Village of Four Seasons, MO; two stepsisters, Elaine Bryant, of St. Louis, MO; Karen Grefe and husband Bob, of Tinley Park, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Memorials in Dave’s name may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church General Fund, the Flower Fund, or the Pew Cushion Fund with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
