Darrel G. Arrington was born in Enid, Oklahoma on Christmas day, 1942 to Waldo R. "Bud" and Vada (Taylor) Arrington. He was a life-long resident of the Enid area until he left to be with our Lord on June 29, 2016.
As a youth, Darrel attended Enid schools and was especially proud of his time playing with the Enid summer baseball team in the late 1950’s. Many local folks may remember him cruising Van Buren in his 1963 Chevy Impala raising a little heck.
He served in the U.S. Navy and upon his return to Enid began his career in the grain elevator service working for Don Baldwin. In 1972, Darrel founded Arrington Elevator Service and Repair which his son, Christopher, is still operating today. Darrel and his wife, Karen have a passion for horses and raise champion Percherons. Darrel believed in the “Cowboy way of life” and married the love of his life during the Centennial Cattle Drive of the Chisholm Trail in September of 1993.
He was a life-time member of the American Brahman Breeders Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and the Percheron Horse Association of America. He and his father were members of the Enid #80 and Waukomis Masonic Lodges.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Karen, of the family home; sons, Darren (Dawn) Arrington of Pensacola, FL; Blake Arrington of Stillwater, OK; Christopher (Peggy) Arrington of Imo, OK; mother, Vada (Leon Gilbert) Arrington of Enid, OK; sister, LaVada (Gailyn) Parks of Alpine, Texas; brother, Klemit (Jean) Arrington of Elgin, OK and numerous grandchildren.
His father, Bud; daughter, Dea Anne; son, Matthew and numerous beloved uncles, aunts and cousins preceded him in death.
As was Darrel’s wish, a graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Hillsdale Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Nash Christian Church or a charity of their choosing with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
