ENID, OK - The Enid City Commission voted 7-0 Tuesday evening to approve a new contract with City Manager Jerald Gilbert.
-
Mayor Bill Shewey said, “I am pleased we are able to move forward with this contract with Mr. Gilbert and I’m excited about the future for Enid.”
-
Ward 2 Commissioner Aaron Brownlee added, “I believe it is also important to thank Jerald for his leadership. He works extremely hard, puts in terribly long hours and has accomplished a lot during his first couple of years.“
-
After the meeting, City Manager Jerald Gilbert stated, “I look forward to working with the Commission, the public and city employees as we move forward to improve our great city.”
-
A survey of Gilbert's performance was sent out to 47 members of city staff with 29 responding. Brownlee said, "As anyone would expect, there were some areas that could be improved upon, but for the most part comments were relatively favorable." The cost of the appraisal was $283 total.
-
The purpose of the survey was to allow for an opportunity to gather information that would be beneficial to Gilbert. The city council is not allowed to discuss city matters with staff, including Gilbert's leadership team, so it would otherwise be very challenging to provide any suggestions for improvement. "Ultimately, what matters within an organization is how the staff feels about the leader, in my opinion that matters more than what the commission thinks they know about his performance," Brownlee stated.
-
Brownlee also said, "I’m optimistic that the next twelve months will include completion of many of the projects we have been working. Jerald’s participation in those projects has been critical and will continue to be as we progress through 2017. It is also noteworthy to thank the staff that participated in the survey. Their comments and opinions are valued and allowed for a growth opportunity for all of us involved, but also likely helped to create better synergies at City Hall thereby benefiting the entire City of Enid."
