ENID, OK - Local Civil Air Patrol (CAP) unit, Enid Composite Squadron, invites the community of Enid to an open house from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Monday, 29 August 2022, at the Emerson Middle School, 700 W Elm Avenue. Squadron commander, Lieutenant Frank Hooper, invites all who have an interest in aviation or serving their community to learn more about the program.
Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors and explain CAP’s different programs. The organization has broadened the horizons of many youth aged 12 to 21 and adults through its cadet programs, which include aerospace education, leadership, character development and physical fitness. The program has unlimited opportunities and experiences for interested new members and its legacy paves the way for successful years into the future.
Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force. In this role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 80 lives annually.
CAP’s 60,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. In addition, CAP plays a leading role in aerospace/STEM education, and its members serve as mentors to over 25,000 young people participating in CAP’s Cadet Programs.
