Catherine Elaine Costello

August 18, 1952 - February 4, 2022

Catherine Elaine Costello, 69, of Enid, passed away on Friday, Feb. 4 after a three-year battle with a variety of ailments. Born in DeKalb, Illinois, on August 18, 1952, to Dale and Jennie Gould, Catherine grew up among horses and horseplay (her brothers Tom and Greg being the primarily responsible parties for the latter). She later married Edmund Costello in Arkansas on April 24, 1977, and the pair made their home in Enid in 1981, adding two to Enid’s population over the years in sons Patrick and Ryan, who, thanks in large part to her mostly gentle prodding both became college graduates, and despite the example she set as a driver (she once renovated the family garage by driving a Toyota through the door) are both more than serviceable automobile operators.

In December 2005, after years working in restaurants, Catherine and Edmund decided to run one. They opened Costello’s Continental Cuisine in December 2005, and the final 16 years of her life were spent helping her guests make merry and memories night after night. C.C., as she was known by many of her friends, was a woman like few other: she was elegant (famously among her family, Catherine didn’t own a pair of jeans), eclectic (known to dance even to the “Muzak” playing at Costello’s), and effervescent (she called Target stores “Tar-jay” and pronounced her granddaughter Scarlet’s name as though she were channeling Clark Gable, among other cheerful eccentricities). She loved deeply and was deeply loved by her family and loved ones, all of whom will sorely miss the light she gave their lives.

Catherine was predeceased by her father, Dale Gould, mother, Jennie Butler, and brother, Tom Gould. She is survived by her husband, Edmund, two boys, Patrick (Addy) and Ryan (Roxanna), granddaughter, Scarlet, brothers Greg, Patrick, and Sean, and sisters Pam and Amy. Catherine requested a celebration of life be held in her honor as opposed to traditional funeral services.

We request Catherine’s loved ones to take part in a come-and-go remembrance in the Blue Room at Costello’s on Sunday, February 13th from 1-3 p.m.
