Looking for an inspirational Christmas gift? Calvary Crosses are handcrafted art created with a meaningful purpose. Company founder and cross creator, Rodney Fowler, is working towards a goal with each cross he makes.
Fowler has envisioned the manufacturing of the crosses to work in conjunction with the creation of a transitional housing ministry. Community-Based Transitional Housing is simply supervised group homes for men and women in transition from jail, prison, treatment, and recovery back to society.
The homes are faith-centered sober-living facilities with a programmatic component (life skills training, etc.) and a strong supervision approach. The program is “private pay,” meaning it is designed to be self-funding from the residents’ program fees, as opposed to a charity dependent on grants or donations.
Clean, affordable housing in a supportive, healthy, semi-structured environment is often cited as the #1 need for breaking the cycles of recidivism, addiction, and poverty.
The general goals are to give residents a positive environment, work with them to overcome their obstacles and barriers, establish good employment with a living wage, save up money, and eventually graduate to independent living.
He intendeds to utilize Calvary Crosses as a means for temporary employment for individuals that have difficulty obtaining work. Plans have already been established to employ residents at an existing transitional housing establishment.
Fowlers business has made a lot of progress since beginning last year and is in the final stages of development. He is looking to have a house up and running as of the first of the year.
Calvary Crosses can be seen and purchased at Davinci's Coffeehouse, 2315 W. Willow and at Natural Nails, 916 W. Willow. They can also be seen on his Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/CalvaryCrosses.
