Butterfly Invasion
-
ENID, Okla. - Now that the Butterfly Mural is complete and the weather is good, it's finally time for the Butterfly Invasion. Last years event had to be cancelled mainly due to weather causing Main Street Enid to delay the event an entire year!
-
Downtown Enid will be invaded by everything butterfly on Saturday, May 7 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The event will take place at 323 S. Grand.
-
Grab the entire family and plan on taking photos in front of the Butterfly Mural. There will be butterfly caricatures and face painting going on. Wildflower seed packets and temporary tattoos will also be on hand for those that attend. The first 50 households will receive a free DIY Butterfly House Kit.
-
You will also be able to Create an Art Collaboration with Mural Artist Rick Sinnett! The event is sponsored by Park Avenue Thrift.

BUTTERFLY WALL MURAL
-
Downtown Enid is home to a beautiful piece of public art, a mural by Oklahoma Artist of the Year, Rick Sinnett. The Oklahoma state butterfly, the Black Swallowtail, colorfully graces the side of Conrady Electric at 323 S. Grand Ave.
-
Rick is a master of mural painting and has a distinct pop art style and calls himself an American folk artist. I spent some time checking on Rick as he and his assistant worked to get the mural painted. He was a very open and friendly person with such great talent.
-
The whimsical mural has really added a spark of color to the downtown area. Rick expressed interest in painting two more murals in Enid in the future. His dream would be to paint three murals in each town that he asked to paint in. He loves the idea of painting the end of the grain elevator near the N. Van Buren overpass. See more of Rick's art here.
-
The butterfly mural was truly a collaboration between businesses, individuals and non-profits. The mural was coordinated by Main Street Enid and was sponsored by ONEOK, Inc., on behalf of Bert Mackie, Conrady Electric and Family, Enid Arts Council and Park Avenue Thrift.
-
As a symbol of transformation, this butterfly has certainly transformed not only the South side of the Conrady Electric building, but also serves as a visual marker welcoming you to the Arts & Entertainment District, transforming the way our residents and visitors experience and value downtown.

BUTTERFLY WALL PROJECT
-
Main Street Enid is encouraging everyone to take photos in front of the Butterfly Project mural and upload an image and optional description or story of transformation HERE.
-
Many of the photos and stories will be published in a book after the completion of 2016. Proceeds from the book will go into the Main Street Enid mural fund for future downtown murals!
-
The much delayed Butterfly Invasion will take place on May 7th! Watch for details.
