ENID, OK - The 2019 Cherokee Strip Business Model Competition winners were announced on May 2 at the awards ceremony at the Oakwood Country Club. Nine businesses submitted their business plan in the competition.

Shah Mat Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, owned by Dylan Smith, was awarded first place in the competition and will receive $10,000. Opened in Dec. 2018, Shah Mat Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu offers jiu-jitsu programs for youth (ages 4-12) and adults (ages 13+). Shah Mat provides adults and children with an engaging and exciting workout while instilling valuable skills that can be used in all aspects of life.

Shah Mat is located at 2101 N. Van Buren. They cater to all experience and fitness levels, both youth and adult. They offer a free week try out session.

Second place and $7,500 went to Catering Foodies, LLC. Owned by Scott Forrest, Catering Foodies partners with customers to provide a top-notch service to assist in planning for any event. Focused on making the customer’s vision a reality, Catering Foodies offers competitive pricing, unique food options, regular dinnerware and a professionally training Executive Chef.

Third place went to Okie Craft Co. and fourth place was awarded to Liberty Lynn’s Showplace.

The top three winners receive one year of co-working space at the Strate Center. Co-working space includes access to the James W. Strate Center for Business Development during business hours to use the conference room, copier, printer, plan room, computer with Adobe Suite and business coaching sessions.

To be eligible for the competition, businesses had to be less than five years old. The competition consisted of three phases: submission of a business plan, a ten-minute oral presentation, and a final presentation in front of a judging panel. Judges were a diverse group of professionals with experience based in academics, investment, financial institutions, entrepreneurship and business. Funding for the competition is provided in combined effort by investors in the Enid Entrepreneur Leadership Series. Investors include Paul & Joan Allen, Ward Petroleum Corporation, Enid Regional Development Alliance, Encompass Financial Services, Security National Bank and Michael P. Wright – Edward Jones Investment.

Autry Technology Center has been a part of the Enid community since 1967 and is one of 29 CareerTech schools across Oklahoma. The center has more than 25 career programs and offers a wide variety of evening and weekend short-term courses and certifications for many diverse career fields. Autry serves nearly 16,000 individuals each year, including many area employees who receive training through the Business and Industry Services Department that works with over 500 local businesses each year.
