After Billy graduated High School he was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1967-1973, active duty with four additional tears as a reservist. He was an excellent marksman with his rife earning many service medals and awards, the Sharp Shooter Medal. When he return the service, he resumed his career as a meat cutting working for his father at Dicus Market then later the United State Dept. of Agriculture. While Billy made a career of serving his community, he was an avid outdoorsman. Being outside with family and friends was his passion. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and bee keeping. He would join his Dad, Dewey on deer, quail and pheasant hunts; often trying to talk his daughters into trying what he brought home. His catfish frying events were legendary with huge family gatherings to enjoy the benefits of his labors. If he blessed you with his homemade bourbon honey, you knew you were special. During his days off from the Vance Fire Department he could often be seen supporting philanthropic activities for the base or coming to his daughters' rescue.
