A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined, in Enid, Oklahoma. Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Betty R. Miller, age 90, was born to Clarence “Hi” & Agnes Caraway Heironimus on October 15, 1932, in Pampa, TX and died November 14, 2022 in St. Louis, MO.
The eldest of 3 siblings, she lived most of her childhood at a Phillips 66 petroleum plant in the panhandle of Texas during and after the Dust Bowl. Her brothers, Walter and Charles, provided her entertainment and she loved and excelled in school. She graduated from Edmond (OK) High School in 1948 and attended Central State College (UCO) and Oklahoma A & M (OSU). In college, she met several like-minded friends who wreaked havoc all over the college campus and they became known as “The Fire Chiefs”. They continued their friendship and antics at annual Fire Chief Conventions over the next 70 years. She met Norris on a blind date, married and moved to the wheat fields of Holcomb, Kansas. She adored her family and was so very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper throughout her life and worked as a write-up accounting supervisor for Randal & Brownlee, CPAs, later BKD, in Enid, OK, for over 30 years until she retired at age 85. She was named Business Associate of the year in 1983-1984 by the Quail Chapter of ABWA.
She always gave of herself and volunteered wherever there was a need. She served her church, she cared for neighbors and friends in their illnesses and always at holiday time with food and TLC, she volunteered at Our Daily Bread and quilted blankets for babies that were donated to Hope Outreach in Enid, OK and Pregnancy Care Center in Fresno, CA.
Betty had a keen and witty sense of humor as is attested to by her wonderful friends throughout all her years. Her hobbies included working daily crossword puzzles, crafting, playing bridge, organizing anything, and especially quilting. Until her move to St. Louis, she was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter GP-OK, serving several chapters for nearly 60 years, she held many chapter offices and was an Executive Assistant for OK State Chapter.
Betty is survived by her brother, Walter Heironimus (Bernie), Blanchard, OK; children, Michael Miller (Liesl) from St. Louis & Linda Rea (Steve) from Goodyear, AZ and grandchildren, J. Burke Rea (Ruth) from Philadelphia, PA and Gillian Rea from Phoenix, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charles. She was loved by friends and family all over the country, including a childhood pen-pal from England and she will be sorely missed.
If desired, friends may make memorial donations to Hope Outreach, Enid, OK or to a charity of their choice with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
