Betty McCarty was freed from the shackles of Alzheimer’s on April 2, 2016.
Betty was born October 23, 1924, in Cincinnati, Iowa. Her first job was at a drug store which she enjoyed very much. But her life was to change when her future husband, Ted, was going with two friends to a dance and hoping to find a date. He happened to see a pretty, young woman standing with his friends’ dates outside their apartment building and asked if she would like to go with him. Luckily for them both, she accepted and a romance blossomed. Their life together as man and wife began August 4, 1945. After numerous moves and a house full of children, they ended up in Enid, Oklahoma, where they lived from 1962 to 2005. Betty was active in the community, volunteering time for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, cheering on her kids, and helping her neighbors. She never passed up a garage sale or a chance to chat. In 2005, Ted and Betty moved to Schertz, Texas, to be closer to family.
Betty will be forever remembered by Ted and their remaining six children and their spouses: Phyllis & Doug (Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey), Barbara & John (Prattville, Alabama), Jack & Sue (San Antonio, Texas), Jane & Dennis (Spring Branch, Texas), Jerry (San Antonio, Texas), Bob & Kaylin (St. Peters, Missouri) as well as 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her infant son, Gary McCarty, her parents, brothers, and sisters.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests you give someone you love a hug. Betty loved hugs.
