Funeral services for Bessie “Dot” Pigeon, 95 of Enid, will be Saturday February 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lester Lowry officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 at the funeral home.

Bessie was born on August 19, 1922 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Jessie and Della Ralston Smith and died on February 17, 2018 in Enid.

She grew up in McAlester. One of her early careers was a monkey trainer and dog trainer for “Dodson’s Hollywood Monkey Stars”. On December 19, 1955, she married Sie Pigeon in Stigler, Oklahoma. While Sie served in the Air Force, they were stationed in Enid, Okinawa, Japan, Philippines, Salina, Kansas, Del Rio and Wichita Falls, Texas. Dot was a volunteer in the family services on the bases. Upon Sie’s retirement from the Air Force, they made their home in Enid, where she was a homemaker. Bessie was a longtime member of Evangel Assembly of God Church, where she was very active. She was the church photographer, historian, active in women’s ministry and sharing music and ministry tapes with shut-ins. Dot volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital for a number of years. She enjoyed traveling, researching and collecting family geneology.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Jim McCrate of Yukon and Susan and Michael Riley of Enid; five grandchildren, Jeremy & Janee McCrate, Joshua & Stormi McCrate, Jacklyn & Joshua Rose, Jonathan & Meredith Riley, and Camren Riley; nine great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
