Barbara Phares

June 28, 1939 - March 27, 2024

The services celebrating and honoring the life of Barbara Jean (Carter) Phares, 84, of Enid, will be held Tuesday April 9, 2024, in the Graceway Baptist Church. A Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Monday April 8, 2024, at Brown-Cummings. Burial will follow the services in the Enid Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.

Barbara Jean (Carter) Phares was born June 28, 1939, in Arkansas City, Kansas an only child, to Oscar Henderson Carter and Mary Goldie (Carpenter) Carter and passed from this life March 27, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma.

She married Chettie Marvin Phares on March 17, 1961, and resided in Enid until her passing. She was a longtime member of the Graceway Baptist Church (Temple Baptist) of Enid, Oklahoma.

Barbara loved camping, fishing, and water skiing with her family all across the many lakes in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas. She thoroughly enjoyed being a Powder Puff race car driver and championship contender at Enid Speedway in the late 1960’s. She was a multi-year recipient of the Mrs. Albee award during her 20 plus years as an Avon representative. Barbara was a longtime associate at Plants-A- Plenty in North Enid, Oklahoma. She retired in January 2008 from the Enid Fire Department as station emergency dispatcher after 27 years of service.

Survivors include sons Bradley Phares, of Enid Oklahoma, Vint (Vinnie) Phares and Darryl Duran, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; grandchildren Christopher Phares and Megan Wilson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Maranda (Phares) and Buster McClish of Enid, Oklahoma Carisa (Phares) and Perry Sims of Enid, Oklahoma, Brianna (Keister) and Christopher Griffin of Ft Worth, Texas; great Grandchildren Carter and Gehrig McClish of Enid, Oklahoma, Alexi Phares of Portland, Oregon, Kinslea Sims of Enid, Oklahoma; son in Law Mike Hitch of Daytona Beach, Florida; and brother-in-law Pete and wife Sue Phares of Enid, Oklahoma.

She is preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Mary Carter, husband Chet Phares, daughter Christie (Phares) Hitch, and grandson Joshua Phares.

Memorials may be made in her honor to the Graceway Baptist Church, Special Projects fund with Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home serving as custodian of the funds.
