Barbara Nell Hicks, 95, of Enid, went to be with her Lord and Savior June 18th, 2024. Her Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Chapel. A graveside committal service will be at 2:00 pm in Eagle City Cemetery, Eagle City, OK.
Barbara was born October 3, 1928 in Eagle City to Henry and Mary Phillips. She was raised on their family farm. She graduated from Eagle City High School and went on to attend Southwestern Teacher's College in Weatherford, OK. She later taught school. Barbara then met the love of her life George E. Hicks and were married on April 26, 1947 and started their family in Canton, OK. Later they moved to Kermit and Odessa, TX where Barbara worked for Getty Oil until her retirement from Chevron in 1986 as an engineering technician. They later moved to Enid, OK in 1991. Barbara loved her family gatherings at the lake, and she made many wonderful memories each summer at a lake house with lots of fishing, boating, and frying up fish. Her grandkids will always remember the fun times she made and are grateful for the memories. She was a member of Oakwood Christian Church until the time of her death. As a teenager, she gave her life to her Lord and Savior. She faithfully supported her church, Ozark Christian College, Dallas Christian College and many other organizations to spread the Gospel of Christ.
Surviving are her sister, June Sumpter and husband Wayne of Longdale; her two sons, Bill Hicks and wife Cathy of Houston; and Bob Hicks and wife Kema of Tulsa; 5 Grandchildren; and 7 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her brother Don, and one granddaughter, Kelli Hicks.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oakwood Christian Church.
