The funeral service for Barbara Jeanne Elmore will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church, Enid. Pastor Jim Nance will officiate. Burial will be 3:00 P.M. that same day in Alva Municipal Cemetery, Alva. Services are under the direction of Henninger~Hinson Funeral Home.
Barbara took her first breath in Heaven on May 5, 2016 where Jesus welcomed her with open arms. Barbara Jeanne (Harris) Elmore was born in Shattuck, OK on July 26, 1932 the first born of Walter Conner and Lura Faye (Hart) Harris. She attended schools in Laverne, Hobart, East View and graduated from Sharon, OK in 1950. She worked in the County Clerk’s office in Woodward before moving with the family to Lahoma. Barbara worked at Sanford Stunkle Drug in Enid before she married and moved to Woodward. Three children were born of this union, Debi Kay, Donnie and Dana. The family later moved to Perryton, TX where she worked in the Ochiltree County Clerk’s office. She later moved with the children to Dacoma, to attend N.W.O.S.U. and worked part time as a legal secretary for Eldred Harmon. Barbara graduated in 1973 with a degree in Elementary Education. She moved to Ames where she taught 2nd grade until retiring in 1994. During these years she continued her education earning her Master’s Degree. It gave her much pleasure to run into former students who spoke fondly of their time in her classes and to see how they had grown into productive adults. Barbara loved reading and watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, OU football and Basketball, also the OKC Thunder, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will greatly miss their beloved Nanny B’s hugs and kisses.
Barbara is survived by her children, Debi Whitworth and husband, Sam of Mustang, Donnie Elmore of Cherokee, Dana Saeger and husband, Stan of Enid; grandchildren, Michael Todd Fielder and wife, JoAnn of Granite City, Il, Justin Fielder of Sallisaw, Amy Fielder of Enid, Mandi Griffin and husband, Russ of Sherman, TX, Aly Morton and husband Brock of Moore, OK; Dustin Elmore and wife, Robyn of Edmond, Jessica Elmore of Stillwater; ten great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Emma Griffin, Maddox, Kaden and Trailee Morton, Grant and Sascha Fielder; Duke Elmore, Xavier Thomas Turner and Jordyn Fielder; brothers, Gary Harris and wife, Bernice of Edmond, Joe Harris and wife Bonnie of Tacoma, WA; sister, Janet Sue Harris of Enid; nephews, Michael Harris and wife Michelle of Arcadia, Derrick Harris and wife, Gabriella of Arizona; great-nephew, Conner Wade Harris of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics Oklahoma, with the funeral home acting as custodian of the fund.
