Avanell Long

October 8, 1929 - October 23, 2023

The services celebrating and honoring the life of Avanell Long, 94, of Enid, will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday October 30, 2023, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with Erik Granberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery. A family visitation will be held 2:00P.M. – 4:00 P.M Sunday October 29, 2023, In the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.

Avanell was born October 8, 1929, to George and Saloma Sewger Dowers on the family farm near Enid, Oklahoma and passed from this life October 23, 2023, in Enid, Oklahoma.

She was raised and educated in a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Carrier High School with the class of 1947. She began working as a telephone operator in Enid. She married H.E. Gene Long May 25, 1952, in Enid. The couple moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico following her husband’s military service. She loved children and babysat in their home. In 1964 the family moved to Bosque Farms, New Mexico and in 1972 the family made their home in Enid, Oklahoma. She later worked in the kitchen at Golden Oaks. She then continued babysitting and cared for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, which she loved!

She was a dedicated member of the North Garland Church of Christ and served in numerous roles throughout the church, teaching Sunday School, working in the nursery, and helping in the kitchen. She enjoyed crocheting and making very intricate doilies. She was a homebody and an over-all amazing woman. She absolutely loved her family.

She is survived by her son Steve Long and wife Tammi, daughters Cathy Burchardt, and Lisa Hugaboom and husband Dusty; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Bradly, Joey, Mandy, Cody, Nikki, and Colby, ten great grandchildren, Miya, Carter, Rileigh, Ashton, Christopher, Danica, Gage, Ally, Barrett, and Raddian; and one great great grandchild, Maddison.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Long; son, Joe Long; siblings, Ivan Dowers, Wayne Dowers, Marion Dowers and Lucille Riffle, and one great great granddaughter, Victoria Rose Berry.
