ENID, Okla. – May 29, 2017 - As our economy changes and evolves, Autry Technology Center is dedicated to leading the way. The skills gap affecting Northwest Oklahoma has led to a need for a new training program at Autry.

The Plumbing Certificate program is designed for students with little to no plumbing experience as well as apprentices currently working in the field. This program will consist of a series of courses designed to take the student through the theory of plumbing and provide hands-on experience. This program has been approved by Oklahoma’s Construction Industries Board.

The Plumbing Certificate program begins September 14, 2017. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 10 pm and lasts 13 months. Upon successful completion of the entire program, the student may apply for one-half year of experience required for taking the state journeyman’s license exam. OSHA 10 is included in the curriculum and the student must pass OSHA 10 to pass the class.

Topics covered include safety and math, fixtures, fittings and valves, distribution systems, plumbing drawings, water supply systems, and booster and recirculating systems, service plumbing and business principles, and test preparation.

Autry Technology Center has been a part of the Enid community since 1967 and is one of 29 CareerTech schools across Oklahoma. The center has more than 25 career programs and offers a wide variety of evening and weekend short-term courses and certifications for many diverse career fields. Autry serves nearly 16,000 individuals each year, including many area employees who receive training through the Business and Industry Services Department that works with over 500 local businesses each year.
