ENID, Okla. – United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma and Autry Technology Center are combining their efforts to engage students enrolled in the Coach-A-Kid mentoring program in the Enid Public Schools elementary and middle school system.

“We are excited that our friends and new partners at Autry will be providing technology-focused educational tool kits to our mentors and students,” said John Gray, Coach-A-Kid Coordinator.

The kits will be comprised of engineering and coding projects, science exploration, drones and robotics. Coach-A-Kid mentors will receive training in these disciplines by specialists at Autry and will then apply the training during their mentoring sessions with students.

“We are providing the Coach-A-Kid students hands-on experience with these technologies,” stated Mandy Mayberry, Autry Director of Communications, Marketing & Recruiting. “This can translate into a student potentially having 13 years of hands-on education in these areas by the time they graduate from Career Tech or college.”

Brady McCullough, CEO of Autry Technology Center believes, “as we continue to work towards a global economy, students need to learn skills that allow them to have parity with other technologically advanced nations. Hundreds of jobs are available with various companies throughout Oklahoma that are looking for people with this type of technology skill set. We are thrilled to partner with United Way and Coach-A-Kid on this exciting project.”

The Coach-A-Kid mentoring program began in 2015 and is funded in part through a grant from the Harris Foundation and the United Way of Enid & NW Oklahoma.

Autry Technology Center has been a part of the Enid community since 1967 and is one of 29 CareerTech schools across Oklahoma. The center has more than 25 career programs and offers a wide variety of evening and weekend short-term courses and certifications for many diverse career fields. Autry serves nearly 16,000 individuals each year, including many area employees who receive training through the Business and Industry Services Department that works with over 500 local businesses each year.
