ENID, Okla. - Every so often you meet someone that is so interesting and has had such a fascinating life that you just want to learn more about them. Local resident and author, Art Reed, is just that sort of guy. He's a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army, an author, a Master Parachutist, an engineer, a mathematician, a recipient of the Bronze Star, a qualified nuclear weapons officer, a teacher, husband, father and grandfather.
-
Reed was born in Chicago in 1936. He attended school there and eventually made his way into the United States Army. After a decorated career of nearly thirty years, he retired. Reed has a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University, and later earned a second degree in education—receiving his Oklahoma Teaching Certification in secondary mathematics from the State of Oklahoma.
-
Art Reed spent more than a dozen years teaching mathematics at Chisholm high school near Enid. He also served as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Phillips University. In the last few years Redd has taken to the Internet to sell his instructional mathematics DVDs for students being homeschooled. The DVD's teach everything from seventh-grade math to calculus.
-
In 2012 Reed began writing and eventually started his first book. Reed's book, "Until We Meet Again, Old Friend," isn't about killing people or classified military operations. It is about the life of a soldier and his personal experiences during military service, service to his country spanning almost three decades. The stories in the book are all true.
-
As you read the book you'll enjoy the travels and real-life tales as the "Old Soldier" is now more than seventy-five years old and - like the knights and soldiers of old - he salutes the reader to let you know that he too is your friend, and he hopes you will enjoy this journey back in time with him!
-
The book is available online at www.artreedsbook.com. You can preview the book and read excerpts from the beginning, middle and end.
-
Art Reed invites you to a book signing on First Friday, June 3 at 6 p.m. He will have copies on hand at Gym, 117 N. Grand. Stop by and talk to Reed and hear many of his fascinating tales.
