ENID, OK - Do you love sweets? If so, you don't have very far to go to find candy made locally right here in Enid, Oklahoma. Apron Strings Candy is the place you'll find all the sweets you could ever want!
Candy store owner, Melissa Thomas, has always enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. Her grandmother and mother were both amazing cooks who taught her to bake, boil and fry, but they didn’t make much in the way of candy, so Thomas learned on her own.
As the mother of four, it seemed as if the kitchen was where the family spent most of their time together. Her children would sit on the floor doing their homework while she made dinner. To this day they all enjoy cooking to some degree and often help their mom out in the shop preparing orders.
Apron Strings Candy started with a simple toffee recipe. Thomas used a lot of trials and mostly errors to create her first recipe. Once she had it perfected she gave most of it away and people fell in love with the taste. Her first successful candy and sale was for traditional English Toffee and it has remained one of the best sellers.
Thomas and her husband converted a former ceramic shop into a commercial kitchen and became licensed with the state, city, and local health departments. They officially opened for business in December 2019 and added a small retail shop in January 2020.
Apron Strings Candy is sold at local craft fairs, home shows, and various events. The retail shop is located at 3810 E. Market in Enid, Oklahoma. Hours are Monday thru Thursday 4pm to 6pm and Friday thru Sunday 10am to 6pm.
The candy making couple creates everything themselves in small batches. They have a licensed commercial kitchen and are part of the Made in Oklahoma coalition. They both currently have regular jobs on top of the candy business which limits the hours that they can be open.
Old fashioned English Toffee and Nutty Peanut Brittle are without a doubt the fan favorites, followed closely by the diabetic and Keto friendly Dark Chocolate Cranberry Pecan Bark. The store will have unique specials for all the upcoming holidays.
