A Celebration of Life service for Andy Shelton, Sr. will be Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church Chapel, 2505 West Owen K. Garriott, with Reverend Wade Burleson officiating. A private family burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
Andy was born on November 20, 1928 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Auza Dee and Vina Sue (Garrett) Shelton and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 8, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Enid, Oklahoma.
Andy was an adventurous soul and at the age of 14, he left home and traveled to California to find his fortune. Along the way he met and married the love of his life, Ruth Ilena Rincker on February 9, 1947 at age 18. They lived in Stockton, CA, Kansas City, MO and Tonkawa, OK, before making their home in Enid for the past 48 years. As a young man, Andy farmed and raised cattle for a short while in Selago, OK. He then moved to Ruth’s hometown of Kansas City, MO, where he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad; studied as a Pastry Chef and managed several NuWay Drive Inns, before moving back to Oklahoma. In Tonkawa, Andy was owner/operator of A&R diner and the bus station. He moved to Enid in 1969 and opened A & R Ceramics along with his wife Ruth. Andy also worked for US Post Office during his entrepreneur ventures. He retired from the Post Office in 1990 to care for his beloved wife, Ruth. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; a brother, and three sisters.
Andy is survived by his three children, daughter, Willa Rude and husband Bill of Enid, son, Andrew D. Shelton, Jr and wife Nancy of Enid, daughter Mary Sue Boyle and husband, Jim of Ocoee, Fl; fourteen grandchildren and spouses; twenty great grandchildren and spouse; six great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Niger Africa Missionaries, Emmanuel Baptist Church.
