A Celebration of Life for Aletha Craig will be 2:00 pm, Friday, January 7, 2022 in the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Gail Edmison officiating. The family requests the practice of social distancing and masks. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends on Thursday from 6:30- 7:30pm.
Aletha was born November 27, 1931 in Salina, Oklahoma to Oscar B. and Thelma Grey Morgan and passed away January 2, 2022, in Enid. She graduated from Drummond High School. Following graduation, Eldon and Aletha were acquainted through siblings which resulted in 69 wonderful years of marriage. They were married on November 18, 1951. They farmed, ranched and ran a dairy all while raising four children, southwest of Enid. Later in life, Aletha worked at England’s Clothing and Oklahoma Floral.
She was the woman recipient of the 1969 Garfield County Agricultural Hall of Fame. Aletha also received the 1998 Garfield County Heart of Family and Community Education Award. As a sixty-five year member of Imo Neighbors OHCE Club, she held every club office multiple times. She held many county OHCE offices, including president and served on state committees. Aletha taught tailoring and sewing classes through the OHCE county office. Judging county fairs extensively throughout N.W. and Central Oklahoma was a passion of hers. She participated in various capacities of the Garfield County Fair as a participant and as a superintendent. For many years, Aletha served on the Garfield County election board. She volunteered for many local agricultural organizations, 4-H leader, FFA supporter and was a member of Rural Rotary. Aletha was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Cowboy Church.
Aletha’s thoughts and kind gestures demonstrated her love of family, friends, neighbors, and life. No sewing tasks were too small, large, simple or complicated for such an accomplished seamstress. She loved having her children, grandchildren and extended family and friends participate in the daily activities of life on the farm. Her chocolate chip cookies and Harvest meat sandwiches were always in demand. She could sling a bale of hay, milk a cow, wring a chicken’s neck, and deliver the first load of wheat to the elevator. As a dedicated sports fan and supporter of her children and grandchildren, attending events was a grand pleasure. During Eldon and Aletha’s 69 years of marriage, they square danced, two-stepped, rodeoed, and enjoyed horse and buggy rides in local parades.
Aletha is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Everett) Hildebrand; sons, Dennis (Sharon) Craig, James Craig, all of Enid, David (Lizann) Craig of Okarche; grandchildren, Kyle, Michael, Chase, Maddie, Austin and Mallory; and seven great grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon; sister, Jean Boedeker; brothers, Buford Morgan and Jerry Morgan.
Memorial donations may be made to Garfield County OHCE Scholarship Fund or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Dementia Division with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
