Alert Warning System Test On Thursday

ENID, OK - THIS IS ONLY A TEST! EXERCISE…EXERCISE…EXERCISE… This is what you will see Thursday morning from Garfield County Emergency Management on all social media and warning systems. The event that Mike Honigsberg will describe on Thursday morning is NOT real but he will be asking the community for help.
-
Honigsberg is asking that everyone participate at your own convenience between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon on THURSDAY, December 1. Please download the GARFIELD COUNTY EM App today and get to know how it works. Garfield County Emergency Management is looking for an overload of replies coming through the DAMAGE REPORT icon on that app.
-
Thursday Events:
1- The notification will start out as EXERCISE..EXERCISE..EXERCISE.. and will be sent at 8 am.
2- Notifications WILL go out over our GARFIELD COUNTY EM APP, NIXLE, and VIARADIO systems. REMEMBER, IT’S ONLY A TEST!!
3- You will see an explanation of a FAKE incoming HIGH WIND EVENT. (In reality our area looks to have a really nice day.)
4- WHAT DOES GCEM WANT YOU TO DO? Download their GARFIELD COUNTY EM app, open it and find DAMAGE REPORT (TOP MIDDLE OF THE MAIN PAGE), tap it and fill in the blanks. Add a picture of whatever - keep them “G” rated and submit the information. “YOU ARE DONE AT THAT TIME”.
5- If you have received the notification over NIXLE or you have VIARADIO, simply send an email, NO TEXTS, explaining – MAKE BELIEVE DAMAGE since this is an exercise and send that information to mike.honigsberg@gcem.org.
-
The purpose of this test/exercise is to see if GCEM can strain or cause the app to bog down or fail along with the above email address. They would like to see the majority of replies between 8:00 and 9:00 am but will accept information through 12:00 noon.
-
The results will be published in a week or two. GCEM will exercise their capabilities at various times of the year. They train year round and then test everything in exercises. Do things fail? Sometimes, but they see that weakness and fix it. It’s the same with personnel and equipment. Always know that our emergency services folks exercise capabilities year round so they can respond and provide the best response possible.
-
It is the same for local notification systems. They test them and find ANY WEAKNESS before a major real world incident. Honigesberg wants to do everything possible to assure their capabilities continue to work even in a catastrophic event.
-
Spread this around to your friends and have them get the app and go to the Emergency Management Facebook page at @EGCEM and get ready for Thursday. This will be interesting.
