ENID, Okla. - Through collaboration between CDSA and the Enid Symphony Orchestra, a very special musical afternoon has been scheduled for June 12th. Maestro Douglas Newell is partnering with Valerie Naranjo (percussionist) to create an afternoon of music just for children. Ms. Naranjo is an internationally recognized percussionist who performs weekly with the Saturday Night Live band as well as works with the Broadway musical, The Lion King.

4:00 PM – Ms. Naranjo will lead pre-school children in musical play with the Non Profit Center’s outdoor musical instruments (114 South Independence). Young children, along with parents are invited to enjoy this fun activity. Children and families will transition to activities at Symphony Hall with a special parade lead by Ms. Naranjo.

4:30 PM – Musical Instrument Petting Zoo at Symphony Hall (301 West Broadway): Musicians, along with their instruments, will be playing and talking about their instruments. Children will be allowed to touch and ask questions about the musical instruments.

5:00 PM – Maestro Newell will lead the Enid Symphony in a program of fun and familiar music. Children and parents are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to participate in the concert – bring wooden spoons and homemade drums. Dancing in the aisles is also encouraged!

A Very Musical Afternoon for Children is sponsored by The Harris Foundation, Main Street Enid, and Community Development Support Association (CDSA). The Non Profit Center’s outdoor musical instruments are made possible by grants from the Cherokee Strip Community Foundation, Henson Construction, and Smart Start Oklahoma.
