A graveside service for Gene Darnell, age 87, will be held 10am Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Harrell Davis will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Gene was born July 4th, 1934 in Enid, OK to Mark Lively and Mary Sophia Darnell and died Saturday June 4th, 2022 in Arlington, TX.
On Dec 27th, 1959 he married Elda Jeanette Knopfel in Covington, OK.
After an honorable discharge from the US Army where he worked as a mechanic he worked for Hurst Motors in Enid. He later worked for Dean Pearson Dodge in Enid for several years and then finished out his career with Central Oklahoma Freight Lines as a diesel mechanic. During all this time he was actively involved with different race cars at Enid Speedway.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Kay Jackson and husband Larry of Arlington, TX: sister, Betty Ferrell of NC: four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many others that considered him family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elda, his parents Mark & Mary and 2 brothers Jack and Melvin.
