Larry Gene Martin

The memorial services celebrating and honoring the life of Larry Gene Martin will be held 4:00 P.M. Thursday September 9, 2021, In the Groendyke Lodge with a meal being served after the service. A Family visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. Wednesday September 8, 2021 in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Complete Cremation and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Larry was born October 25, 1947, to Dale Richard Martin and Betty Jane Miller Martin Draper in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He passed away September 2nd, at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Larry graduated from Edmond High School in 1965. He was married to the love of his life, Kathy, on June 15th, 1969, in Edmond, OK. He enlisted in the 95th training division Oklahoma Army Reserves in OKC, and then transferred to the Air Force reserve at Tinker and served out his enlistment.

Larry began his work in the oilfield service industry when he took a position with N.L. Acme Tool in OKC in 1969. After working as a senior accountant in the company’s home office for seven years, he transferred to Acme’s office in Vernal, Utah to gain more experience in the field. Two, years later, he went to work for Dotco Fishing Tools to manage their store in Vernal. He later moved to Farmington, New Mexico and finally landed in Oklahoma when he was transferred to Dotco’s office in Elk City during the big oil boom of 1980. He later moved to Duncan and ultimately settled in Enid.

Larry and Kathy formed Kalamar, Inc. in 1984 with only 3) 7 1/16 3000# blowout preventers. As the business grew, they reinvested their profits. Larry did the bookkeeping and the outside sales work. Kathy assisted Larry and cleaned, serviced, and delivered the equipment whenever and wherever it was needed. Together Larry and Kathy built and maintained their company from the ground up.

In 1990, the couple purchased an office building and land on South Van Buren in Enid and made several additions to the location with updates to the office and shop in 1992 and further additions to the shop through 2002. In 2006 Kalamar purchased a larger building with more land at 1405 East Willow in Enid where they are still located today.

Larry lived his life to honor the Lord. He was a strong family leader, a head strong boss, and fiercely loyal to those who were privileged to call him friend. Larry was very devoted, always honest, and true example of a Christian man. He enjoyed working, construction, and working on cars.

Larry was very witty and always had something smart to say. He was a blessing and treasure, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his two sons, Chris Martin and wife, Tammy, Mike Martin and wife, Christy; daughter-in-law, Shaunna Martin; brother Richard “George” Martin, and wife Jane; grandchildren, Julia, Kara, Maranda, Madisen, Rachel, Emily, Kyle and wife Mimi, and Alecia; and great-granddaughter, Paris.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathy Martin; beloved son, Phillip Martin; his parents; and sister.

Memorials may be made in his honor to 4 R Kids and Entering his Gates with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
