Kevin was born in Enid Oklahoma on October 27, 1959 to Alvis and Camylia Louise Beckner Morris. He departed this life on Friday August 20, 2021 ready to meet his Lord and Savior.
Kevin grew up in Enid and Lahoma, Graduating from Lahoma High School in May 1977. During and after High School Kevin worked as a Carpenter for Alvis Morris Construction building both homes and Apartment Buildings. He believed every home should be built as if he and his family would be the ones living in it. He took great pride in his ability to build from the ground up.
He joined the Enid Police Dept. in 1985, retiring as a Captain on March 31st 2015 just a few months shy of 30 years due to poor health. During that 30 years, Kevin worked in Traffic, Patrol, Narcotics and also in The Detective unit. He had so many stories about his Family in Blue and all of the Ladies in Records and 911. They each made a huge impact on his life and on his dedication to the Enid Police Dept. He believed in being fair and honest and that’s all he ask of them in return. He was known to say right is right and wrong is wrong and there is no in between.
Kevin met and married his High School Sweetheart Sunshine on May 26, of 1979 at his parent’s home in Lahoma. Together they raised 3 children who without a doubt were his greatest gifts in this earthly life. Tabatha, Michael and Alicia. He would tell people that his wife had done a good job raising his kids because he spent most of his time working hard to support them, but in all honesty his children were good kids because they followed in their father’s footsteps and they never wanted to be a disappointment to the man they considered their Hero.
He enjoyed using his carpentry skills, motorcycle riding along with fishing and boating. Sunshine tells us he would sell one just to buy the next one. Kevin would tell anyone who would listen about how he fell in love with the little blonde standing in the Hallway at school and going home to tell his mom that he’d just met the girl he was going to marry as soon as he could figure out how to get her attention. Sunshine didn’t make it easy, she wasn’t quite as impressed with him at that time. His mom seemed to find a way to intervene and help that along. She even told Sunshine that Kevin needed someone that would be there to take care of him later in life and be willing to follow him to the ends of the earth. Kevin said many times he believed his mom somehow just knew what he would be facing.
For as much as Kevin loved Sunshine and their children, there are not enough words to describe how he felt about his grandchildren. He would tell each of them “you know you’re my favorite” ---but don’t tell the others. So you all know they were each his favorite! Nothing made him happier than spending time with these kids, whether it was fishing with them or letting them ride his motorcycle and it didn’t make any difference how old they were or how young they were, he’d let them ride. He’d tell them to stay out of trouble, do your best, and know that I am proud of you and I love you.
He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to the Gulf with Uncle Delton and Uncle John and considered himself blessed when he was finally able to enjoy those same trips with his son Mike and son in law Kenyon, his three grandsons and his brother Darin. He had fish stories that never ended and even though some might wonder I can tell you, they were all true.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, Alvis and Camylia Morris. Paternal Grandparents Bill and Lillian Leon Morris, Maternal Grandparents Fenton and Dorothy Beckner.
He is survived by his wife Sunshine of 42 years, Daughter Tabatha and husband Arne Cooper of Alabama, Son Mike and Jami Morris of Lahoma, Daughter Alicia and Kenyon Hughes of Fairmont, Grandchildren: Christian, Alexis, Josephine, Kacin, Miles, Maci and bonus grandson Gunner.
