September 18, 1932 - August 18, 2021
The services celebrating the life of Monnie Baxter, 88, of Enid and recently Tulsa, will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 21, 2021, in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Ryan Goodman officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Monnie Baxter was born September 18, 1932, in Sayre, Oklahoma. Her parents were Theodore and Isabelle “Belle” Cotton. She died on August 18, 2021, in Tulsa, with her children around her.
She was raised and educated on the family farm just outside of Sayre, Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school in 1949. She attended OBU where she played basketball. She married Wendell Eugene Baxter December 30, 1952, in Nichols Hills. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southwestern University in Winfield, Kansas. The young family lived in various cities until they settled in Enid for his hospital administration career.
She taught a few years and substituted, but her calling was her family. She supported her husband through five degrees and the management of Bass Hospital for three decades. She kept a beautiful home. In any free time, she played tennis and golf, watched ESPN, played a killer bridge game, and baked so many pies and cookies, always with a beloved dog or two at her heels. She was a member of Emmanuel Church in Enid, PEO chapter DO, the Hoe and Grow Garden Club, Chi Beta Study Club, and several bridge clubs.
She is survived by her children Kevin Baxter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kathi Goodman and husband David of Woodward; Krista Waldron and husband John of Tulsa; and her sisters Blanche Walker and Esther Bolding. She also leaves behind grandchildren Ryan Goodman and wife Barbara, Ava Baxter, and Van Waldron; and great-grandchildren McKinley, James, Andrew, Nicholas, and Kate, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gene Baxter; her grandson Justin and his wife Amanda; and her sisters Lorene Oyler, Josephine Elliott, and Vivian Northam.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Integris Bass Monnie and W. Eugene Baxter Care Fund with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
