Mildred Z. Wheeler Myers, age 93, of Enid, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Loving Savior Jesus Christ and heard the words “Well done My Beloved, You are finally home” and she was greeted by her loved ones that she has been longing to see. Everyone that knew Mildred “Millie” felt loved and accepted by her and she was so beautiful and full of grace. She always had her hair done, lipstick on, a smile on her face and a sense of humor that brought you joy.
A Celebration of life service will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Johnson and Al McVety officiating. Visitation with family will be Monday, May 10, 2021 at Anderson Burris Funeral Home from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Burial will take place at Del Norte Cemetery. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
Mildred was born March 16, 1928 to Lee and Zady Clutter, in Colorado Springs, Colorado and passed away May 6, 2021 in her home. She attended grade school in Colorado and moved to Oklahoma and graduated from Amorita High School. While attending college in Alva she met the love of her life Andy Wheeler. It was true love from the beginning and they were married Feb. 2, 1947. To this union two beautiful daughters were born, Judy and Sherry. Mildred enjoyed sewing and making all of her girls’ clothes and she returned to college to receive her degree in elementary education from Phillips University in 1966 the same year her oldest daughter, Judy graduated from high school. She grew up loving and appreciating her teachers and wanted to be a teacher to make a difference in kid’s lives. Most people will remember her as Mrs. Wheeler and she taught at Lincoln Elementary School in Enid for 10 years and Drummond School as a first and second grade teacher for 13 years. She will always be remembered by her grandchildren as Granny Mil, who made life so fun by having picnics in the backyard, holiday crafts and attending all of their school activities. She was an avid OU football fan and you knew never to call during “Her” game. She loved to quilt and after retirement she could be found quilting for hours and her quilts were exquisite. She is known for her strong faith in Jesus Christ and through great trials she has always trusted in her Savior to carry her through, one day or moment at a time. Mildred’s husband Andy passed away in 1999 and she later married Marvin Myers in 2002 and he passed away in October 2017. She gained two sons and their wives, Ron and Nancy and Barry and Donna Myers, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She felt blessed to have had two wonderful loving-Christian husbands, her family and friends. Mildred has been faithful in attending church since she was a young child, playing the piano, and in later years singing in the church choir. She rarely had missed a Sunday in church and always loved the fellowship of her friends. She was a member of The First Church of the Nazarene and spent many years serving as a Gideon with Gideons International and has continued to support them. Mildred and Marvin had a Bible Study group in their home for many years, which brought them so much joy.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Judy Hill of Drummond; grandchildren, Traci and Gene Broomfield, Tresa and Justin Rother, Cody Hill and girlfriend Chelsea Suanny, and Travis Groves; great-grandchildren, Kale and Malynn Broomfield, Callie Hill, Wyatt Groves, Tyson, Cody and Blake Endres, Jalie, Jadyn, Journey and Case Rother, Alia and Macki Suanny; sister-in-law Betty Wheeler; dear friend Stacie Kaiser; son-in-law Roger Groves; step-sons and wives, Ron and Nancy Myers, Barry and Donna Myers; step-grandchildren, Casey and Jon Watson, Gabe and Melinda Myers, Andy and Leigh Myers, Hannah, Sarah and Noah Myers; great-grandchildren, Jaron, Caleb and Ellie Watson, Braxton and Greyson Myers, Norah, Elyse, Taylor and Drew Myers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Andy Wheeler, daughter Sherry Groves, grandson Wesley Groves, great-grandson Devon Groves, grandson-in-law Landon Endres, husband Marvin Myers, two sisters and three brothers. Thank you to Hospice Circle of Love for their in-home care and love they provided. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, Regional Food Bank and St. Jude’s in lieu of flowers.
