Kay was born in the little town of Stonington, Colorado to Dale and Alta Norton Brown and passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021. She loved the Lord all her life and shared her love with anyone that would listen especially her family. Even in her passing, she shared her love of the Lord in her final breaths.
She met the love of her life, Irl Wayne Cottom at the age of 13 while she was on a harvest crew. He was selling watermelons due to rain and was too wet to harvest and Kay asked how much they were and Irl Wayne said, “I’ll give you one for a date”, and so went the rest of the story. She moved to Enid to live with her sister Peggy and met up with Irl Wayne again and they were married January 1, 1947. She was only 15 and had only finished 8th grade but she had life knowledge that you would have thought she was a college graduate. Of this union, there were three sons born, Gerald, Gene and Owen. Kay accepted the Lord at the Ames Christian Church and was baptized.
Kay had many health issues throughout life, with asthma, breast cancer, and heart issues, but she always rose above and gave all the credit to the Lord.
Kay leaves us with a legacy of hard work and endurance and to always trust in the Lord. She is survived by Owen Cottom of Meno, Gene and wife Oma Cottom of Meno, and Jo Cottom-McWilliams and husband Randy of Drummond, 8 grandchildren, Bryan Cottom and Tamara of Sayre, OK, Melissa Packan of Drummond, Terry Cottom and Jamie of Enid, Sheila and Ron McHenry of Meno, Gary Cottom of Flora Vista, NM, Lori and James Stevenson of Enid, Lisa and Rolando Trejo of Ringwood, Kendall Cottom of Enid, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Crosswhite and husband Clayton of Meno, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her treasured church family.
She was preceded in death by Irl Wayne, son Gerald, her parents and in-laws Asa and Lillian Cottom, sister Peggy and two half-brothers and half-sister, grandson Bob Packan and granddaughter Tracy Cottom.
