The services celebrating and honoring the life of Elizabeth “Beth” Beatrice Tingler Smith will be held 1;00 P.M Saturday October 31, 2020 in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Diane Stein officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home
Elizabeth “Beth” was born February 13, 1924 to Jess Oliver Tingler and Helen Gertrude Yearout Tingler in Enid, Oklahoma and passed from this life October 23, 2020 in Enid.
Beth graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1942 while working at Garfield Furniture. She then attended Business School at Phillips University going to work for Judges Musser and Green in Enid. In 1954 she began working in the Vance Air Force Base Legal Offices where she met and then married Dennis R. Smith in 1955. Sons Raymond and Kenneth followed and later adopted daughter Donna Kaye. With Dennis in the Air Force we spent time Wiesbaden, Germany traveling to Switzerland, Italy, The British Isles, and all points in between. The family then returned to the United States living in Rapid City, South Dakota where Dennis was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base before returning to Enid. She worked as a Legal Secretary for the Air Force until retiring in 1977. She was a member of Davis Park Christian Church, University Place Christian Church, and Christian Church of the Covenant. She was a charter member of the First Seniors AMBUCS and did taxes for AARP for 26 years. In 1952 she joined the area chapter of Delta Theta Chi Sorority and was a lifelong member holding many offices in her service to the sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dennis R. Smith, parents Helen and Jess Tingler; four brothers, Russel (infant), James Oliver “Jimmy” Tingler, Hewlett Ray “Ray” Tingler, William Nelson “Bill” Tingler; sisters Gertrude “Sally” Thornton and Agnes “Aggie” Cooper and daughter Dona Kaye Henson Smith- Kenley.
She is survived by her sons Raymond Smith and Kenneth and wife Ann Dyer Smith; their daughters, Gillian Leigh Smith and Kathryn “Katie” Nicole Brisk with husband Isaac Brisk; their daughter Finnley Brisk and son in law Christopher Kenley; along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, in laws, and many, many friends in many states and a few countries.
She loved to quilt, cross stitch and did tatting and knitting, keeping all of us in doilies, quilts, and warm sweaters.
