The private family graveside service honoring and celebrating the life of Leota “Otie” Frantz, 98, of Enid will be held in the Memorial Park Cemetery of Enid with Ken Mendenhall officiating. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Leota Alice Cherry Frantz (Odie) was the 3rd daughter born to Sidwell Louis Cherry and Clara Shepherd Cherry in Okemah, Oklahoma on February 27, 1922. She peacefully died on September 12, 2020. When Odie was only one year old, Clara moved her girls to Shawnee, Oklahoma, after the death of her husband. The three beautiful Cherry girls left their mark on that town! Odie was a vivacious Theta at OU, when she said she made the best decision of her life saying “yes” to the quiet, reserved, but humorous Bob Frantz from Enid. They married on January 16, 1943 in Dallas, Texas while Bob was serving in the army. After the war they made their home in Enid to raise their 3 children.
Odie was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Chapter Q of PEO. In her earlier years she was busy in Junior Welfare League, KAT Alumnae Chapter, serving the hospital as a Cherry Red Lady, teaching Sunday School, and a founding member of the Big Band Dance Club. She was forever supporting her children in sports, Camp Fire Girls and Scouting. In her neighborhood on Osage she was known to generations of children as “The Cookie Lady”. It is an understatement to say she had a passion for dancing and bridge! Her eternal legacy was a prayer group of her closest friends who met weekly to pray our families and friends through all the ups and downs of life.
Odie is being greeted in heaven by the love of her life, Bob, her parents, her in-laws, her two older sisters, Margie Watson and Retha Miloe Vincent, her grandson, Blake Riley, and thousands of family and friends. Those sending her on her way are her children, Doug and Dianne Frantz of Enid, Kurt and Ivana Frantz of Haskell, and Robin and James Riley of Edmond, Gram’s grandchildren: Kyle and Dannette Frantz, Brett and Gaylyn Frantz, Monika and Corey MacIntyre, Marcie and Tim Bazor, Hallie and Chad Caldwell, Andrea and Luca Little, and Daniel Frantz, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family is so grateful for the three years of love and tender care Odie received from the staff at The Arbors, from Hospice Circle of Love for the last few weeks and from her church family and friends her entire life.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love, Jim Riley Outreach, Samaritan’s Purse or Westminster Presbyterian Church with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
