The Funeral service honoring and celebrating the life of Enid Police Department Detective Nicholas L. “Shack” Shackleford will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday November 23, 2019 in the Oakwood Christian Church with Chaplain Butch Phillips officiating. Cremation will follow. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force Silver Talons Honor Guard. Police Honors and the Last Call will be conducted by the Enid Police Department Honor Guard. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

He was born to Larry and Kathy Schement Shackleford June 6, 1972 in Dayton, Ohio. He was baptized in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was raised and educated in Dayton graduating from Carroll Catholic High School in 1990. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he worked in crypto technology with top secret clearance during the Desert Storm and Desert Shield campaigns.

After he was honorably discharged from his service to his county he returned to Ohio and attended Wright State College.

He then worked for ComNet traveling throughout the United States and Mexico repairing and updating flight information display systems.

It was during this time when he met the love of his life Lori McCarter and they united in holy matrimony February 14, 2000 in Wichita Falls, Tx.

The couple moved throughout the intercontinental United States for Lori’s military career including Panama City, Florida for four years and Honolulu, Hawaii before moving to Enid to be near family. It was while in Honolulu Nicholas became interested in becoming a policeman and became one of 28 out of 2,800 to graduate from the selection process joining the Honolulu Police Department. In 2014 he joined the Enid Police Department and he and his fellow Officers quickly became brothers. In 2016 he earned the rank of detective working juvenile crimes. In 2017, he transferred into the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) division.

He along with his wife ran more than 28 marathons all over the U.S.

He was a man’s man but, never scared to admit his love for all things Disney or to belt out a rendition of “Let It Go” from the movie Frozen.

Above all other things he cherished his family and spending time with them.

He is survived by his parents of Ohio, his wife of the home, and his sons, Spencer and Luke, both of Enid.
