From a young age, Betty was always involved in her Church. Baptized on November 19, 1937, she spent her entire life serving others and the Lord. She attended first through eighth grades at the Parochial School through Immanuel Lutheran Church. She went on to attend Hunter High School, where she met a young man named Donald Buss. Together, they continued their education at Oklahoma State University where Betty earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1959. On August 24, 1958, Betty and Don were married in the same Church she grew up in. After graduation, they made their home in Hunter where Don was manager of the Sheep Sales for the Enid Livestock Commission Company. Betty began teaching at Roosevelt Elementary in Enid before taking a job at Hunter Elementary and finally, Pond Creek Elementary before her retirement. All the while, she raised her family, worked on the farm alongside Don and continued her dedication to her Church by being a Weekday Class teacher for numerous years.

Hobbies that were so very dear to Betty involved entertaining for family and neighbors in order for them to get to know and stay involved with one another. She also took great pride in hosting annual summer picnics for Northwest Lutheran Pastors as well as Christmas parties for Circuit Pastors. Her grandchildren’s birthday parties were especially important to her. Commemorative toys can still be found in the hay barn to this day.
