Eugene George Bachman

A celebration of life for Eugene “Gene” George Bachman, 85, of Enid, will be 7:00p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Waukomis Christian Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 6:00p.m. Cremation services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Eugene “Gene” George Bachman was born September 15, 1933 in Corydon, Indiana to Frank Nicholas Bachman and Bertha Victoria Kockert Bachman and passed away June 2, 2019 at his home in Enid, Oklahoma.
Eugene attended school in East Detroit, Michigan and obtained his GED while he was in the Air Force. He joined the United States Air Force March 13, 1952 in Wayne, Michigan. He attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He also attended aircraft and engine mechanics school at Shephard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Gene served in Korea all of 1953 as a flight mechanic. He was stationed in Enid, OK. at Vance Air Force Base in January 1954, Honolulu, Hawaii at Hickman Air Force Base in November 1960, Rome, New York at Griffiss Air Force Base in December 1963, Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam from 1965-1966, in Germany at Spangdahlem Air Force Base in January 1967, Madrid, Spain at Torrejon Air Force Base in July 1968, and Tacoma, Washington at McChord Air Force Base in January 1970. He retired from the Air Force on July 1, 1972.

During his time in the Air Force he received many medals for his service. He received the United States Services Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Logistics Service Award with four bronze OLC, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two bronze OLC, AFR and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Gene returned to Enid where he worked as an electrician’s apprentice for Walt Baade, aircraft mechanic at Northwest Aero at Woodring Airport. He then spent 20 years at Enid State School as a carpenter, electrician, and maintenance supervisor. He retired in 1995

He was a Charter member of the Pioneer Pleasant-Vale Lion’s Club serving as president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and tail-twister. He received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2002. He was a member of the Men’s Extension Garden Club of Enid.

Eugene married the love of his life and best friend, Arlene Joan Kingsley Bachman on November 23, 1955 in Enid, Oklahoma. Together they had two children. Arlene and Eugene were longtime members of the Excel Camping Club. Arlene passed away on October 19, 2014.

Gene is survived by his children, Dale John Bachman and wife Linda Susan, and Gayle “Malia” Bachman; four grandchildren, Lisa Marie Jines and husband Chaeton Colin, Erica Lynn Starzmann and husband Adam Robert, Michelle Renée Bachman, and Eric Michael Bachman; nine great-grandchildren Austin Jay Coope, Julie Fay Starzmann, Dominick Steven Roth, Adam Robert Starzmann, Jr., Abigail Jean Dawn Starzmann, Unity Mariss Snow/Cooper, Monét RaeAnna Jines, Chaeton Ross Jines, and Zaine Vance Jines; one brother, Fredrick Jacob Bachman; three sisters, Faye Marie Rinke, Mary Rita Ledyard, and Sally Ann Wedlick. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Ron Stone of Nash, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Arlene Joan Bachman; three brothers, John Donald Bachman, James Edward Bachman, and Frank Nicholas Bachman; his sister, Mary Joann Hayes.

Memorial contributions can be made to Waukomis Christian Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
