ENID, OK - “Pardon me, boy. Is this the Transylvania station?” Climb aboard the Transylvania Express as Gaslight lightens up your summer with a full-on, flat-out funny musical, Young Frankenstein. Fans of the cult classic Mel Brooks film starring Gene Wilder and Madeleine Kahn will find all their favorite gags present and correct, only now amped up with Brooks’ score that’s full of clever, witty lyrics and great music. But even those who’ve never seen the film will enjoy an all-singing, all-dancing evening of pure escapism. Director Christianne Chase and Music Director Brett Wilenzick have been working with a brilliantly talented cast since May, and now they’re ready to take you on a trip to Transylvania, “where vampires suck your blood at night, and werewolves prowl in the pale moonlight …” and where there’s definitely something funny going on in that castle!
-
Young Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (“That’s pronounced FronkenSTEEN”) — Alex Ewald – is summoned to Transylvania to settle the estate of his late grandfather Victor von Frankenstein (Jeffrey Ambrosini). Initially dismissive about Victor’s “wacky work,” Frederick becomes intrigued as he meets some crazy characters like hunchback Igor (“That’s pronounced EYEgore”) played by Daniel Johnson, lovely lab assistant Inga (pronounced normally) — Laura Lee McClelland – and a slightly sinister housekeeper, Frau Blucher (cue the horse whinny) — Janet Jones. A little grave-robbing and a visit to the local Brain Depositary and the Frankensteins are back in the family business — creating monsters!

Venson Fields plays the Monster; Lenita Krejci is Frederick’s adorable, madcap fiancée Elizabeth; and Curtis Crandall as Inspector Kemp incites the villagers to violence. Meanwhile, Matt Palmer as Harold the blind hermit just longs for a visitor — be careful what you wish for!
Evan Chermack, Chad Swanson, Matt Palmer, Jim Clark, Bailey Wilson, Linda Small, Lexi Neahring, McKenna Chatterji, Jersey Garrett and Angela Lyon play villagers, medical students, mad scientists and tap dancers!
-
Stage manager Mitch Walters and his exceptional backstage crew—Mary Pickering, Sarah Valtr, Tammy Wilson, Ken Kelsey and Mark Anzalone keep the wheels turning and the scenes shifting.
-
The set, designed by Ken Kelsey and Mitch Walters and built by Jens Ruding and Evan Chermack is inspired by both the classic black-and-white horror films and the comic book genre. There are surprises in store — some wicked special effects by Tony McHendry, and a special local celebrity guest appearance!
