Merle Duane Bacon

Funeral services for Merle Duane Bacon, 81, of Enid, will be Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Reverend Timothy Dorsch and Reverend Travis Orr officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Breckenridge under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Merle was born on September 3, 1936 near Hunter, Oklahoma to Arthur and Helen (Mohlenbrink) Bacon and died on June 5, 2018 in Enid.

He attended school at Breckenridge through the 8th grade and graduated from Garber High School. Merle went to OU for one year, before entering the U.S. Air Force. He served for four years. Merle was an excellent baseball player and played fast pitch softball for the Air Force. He worked in the intelligence field for the air force. He then worked for a pipeline company for several years. In 1971, he moved back to Breckenridge and worked for UPS, was a custom cutter, farmer, and carpenter. On May 15, 1975, Merle married Jeanette Gillette in Aline, and they made their home in the Enid area. He worked at Vance Air Force Base until his retirement. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Enid, and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Breckenridge.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Phyllis and Wilma.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette of the home; two children and their spouses, Kenny and Wendy Bacon, Enid, and Rhonda and Bobby Hunzicker of Lenexa, Kansas; six grandchildren, Joel and Kaitlin Bacon, Kyle and Holly Bacon, Hannah Bacon and Anthony Marr; and two great grandchildren Dakota Bacon and Carl Marr.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Redeemer Lutheran Church, or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
