ENID, OK - A familiar face is returning to Enid High School soccer – Coach Craig Liddell.

EPS has named Liddell the head varsity coach for both the Plainsmen and Pacers, as well as EHS assistant principal. Liddell, who coached the EHS soccer teams for 15 years and more than 350 games from 2000-2015, recently completed his third season as head coach of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s women soccer program.

While it is bittersweet to leave behind his days as a Rangers coach, Liddell said he is excited to return to EHS to lead a program that he loves and helped to build. Known for his friendly “cheers” greeting, Liddell is looking forward to being a Plainsmen and Pacer once again.

“My time at Northwestern has been fantastic, coaching at a very good level and being a part of a great school has been a real blessing. However, this is an amazing opportunity to return to Enid High and this will be a perfect set up for our family,” Liddell said. “Knowing what Enid Soccer is all about means I know exactly what challenges we face to build a top-notch program, but in the same breath, knowing the potential in our soccer community and the support we have from EPS, I am thoroughly excited and super motivated to get to work and make something special happen.”

According to Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd, EPS is thrilled to welcome Liddell back to the EPS team.

“This is a great day not only for the soccer program, but also for Enid High School and our entire district,” Floyd said. “Craig is an excellent coach but he is also a quality educator and all-around, first-class person. His leadership abilities and his heart for students make him an excellent fit for the EHS administrative team. We look forward to seeing the soccer program continue to improve and to thrive under his guidance. He knows the program, and now he can couple that knowledge with what he has learned at the collegiate level. We know he will be a tremendous asset to the athletic department and to the school as a whole.”

Liddell earned his Bachelor of Science from California Baptist University and his Masters of Educational Leadership from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. During his time as a high school science teacher for EPS, he also was named the 2014-15 District Teacher of the Year.

“I am very grateful to our forward thinking EPS administration, led by Dr. Floyd, for this opportunity,” Liddell said. “To be back at Enid High and work for a very good friend in Mr. Darrow means a lot to me as I know just how good a school it is. Educational leadership plays a large role in my life, and I look forward to this new chapter.”

Liddell has tentatively scheduled a team/parent meeting for June 8. The media will be invited to attend.

As assistant principal, Liddell will succeed Jon Mitchell, who recently accepted the principal position at Longfellow Middle School. On the soccer field, he will replace Scott Fitzgerald and Charles Owens, who resigned recently from coaching the Pacers and the Plainsmen, respectively.

Liddell’s wife, Katie, is a counselor at Garfield Elementary School. They have two children.
