Funeral service for John M. Wood, age 85 of Enid, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, in the Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Williams and Everett Ohls officiating. Burial will follow in the Ames Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

John was born October 23, 1932, at Ames, OK to John A. and Lorena Patton Wood, and passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Enid.

He grew up in Ames, graduating from the Ames High School. John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as Military Police in Africa. He Married Helen Randolph and they made their home in Enid. They had two sons, Darrel and Donnie. John worked at Franklin Motor Company for 27 years and later worked at Enid Glass Works, where he retired. On April 24, 1977, he married Opal Barnes in Calvary Baptist Church and they made their home in Enid. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. John enjoyed woodworking and working in in yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dorothy Blaser, two brothers, Donald and John A. Wood.

John is survived by his wife, Opal; two sons and their wives, Darrel and Amy Wood, Kingfisher, and Donnie and Dana Wood, Enid; three stepchildren, Janice Francis, Broken Arrow, Danny Barnes and wife, Melva, Sherman, TX, Pam Smart and husband, Ron, Enid; 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
