EPS Announces Support Professional of the Year Finalists

Enid Public Schools officials announced their 2017-18 Support Professionals of the Year this week. The finalists, nominated by their colleagues, are Phyllis Logsdon, Leona Pierce, and Teresa Thatcher.

EPS invites the public to attend the EPS Foundation Education Celebration, where the Teacher of the Year and Support Professional of the Year will be announced. The event will be Wednesday from 5-6 p.m. at Prairie View Elementary School and will be broadcast live on YouTube by EPS*tv.

“The success of our school district would not be possible without the contribution of our excellent support staff,” said Dr. Darrell Floyd, Superintendent. “They help create an environment that allows students to learn and to grow -- providing welcoming offices, clean classrooms, healthy food, rides to school, and so much more. We appreciate their hard work and dedication.”

Longsdon has been with the district for three years as afood technician at Carver Early Childhood Center. She makes the lunch room enjoyable by decorating and dressing up for every occasion and always having a smile on her face. Hayley Goodman, the Common’s Pre-K teacher, nominated Longsdon, saying, “she makes the lunchroom a happy place to be for the children and the staff at Carver.”

Pierce is the crossing guard at Monroe Elementary and has been for the past 11 years. Always prepared to wave and smile at drivers, she is seen every morning and afternoon helping students cross the busy streets of Willow. “You can tell that Leona loves her job by the smiles, warm hugs, and the cheerful wishes kids receive for a good day at school,” said Amanda Purdy, teacher at Monroe Elementary, who nominated Pierce for the Support Professional of the Year.

The third and final Support Professional of the Year finalist is Thatcher, secretary at Enid High School. With 29 years in the district, Thatcher is a familiar face to teachers, students and parents. Nominated by several people, including EHS Principal Dudley Darrow, so many great things were said about her, including, “Teresa is the bright spot in anyone’s day that visits the office, she is eager to help anyone and it is always with a smile not only on her face, but in her voice.”
