Enid, Okla. — June 27, 2017 - The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is looking for Volunteers to help with special events and to lead tours as Docents. Volunteer Orientation will give those interested in volunteering a good understanding of the many opportunities available and the scope of services provided by Heritage Center volunteers. “The Heritage Center is right at the height of the tourist season and we are needing some outgoing volunteers who love history to help us provide tours for our guests. We are also gearing up for our busy fall season when we need large numbers of special event volunteers to help with Lantern Tours, Family Farm Day and Christmas in the Village,” said director, Andi Holland.

There are no special requirements needed to be a volunteer at the Heritage Center, except to enjoy being around people and have an appreciation for the history of the Cherokee Strip. Volunteers from age 16 on are welcome to attend orientation. Volunteers will complete an application process and a background check then be trained and mentored for their chosen assignment. “Volunteering at the Heritage Center is lots of fun and very rewarding,” says Fred Mochon. Another volunteer, Linda Allen, says, “I’ve really enjoyed learning more about the Cherokee Strip and find volunteering at the Heritage Center has added to my quality of life.”

The mission of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is to tell the extraordinary story of the settlement and development of the Cherokee Strip and sharing the lessons of leadership with future generations.
